Thoughts and Insights For Impactful Living

Over the course of 23 years 6 months 8 days 8 hours 19 minutes now, on this rocky mass revolving around a gaseous nuclear reaction, I have gone through a lot of experiences in my life. I have been fortunate enough to have been living a 'privileged' life, where food, water, air, security and a place to rest my head were never 'real' concerns in my life.

In the beginning of every life, you begin your life by observing the people and activities around you, with the inquisitive nature that we as a human beings have developed. This allows us to gain knowledge and learn from the mistakes of others, without actually having to make those mistakes yourself. This by itself is the single most important factor in the exponential growth that the human society has seen.

However, what we don't realize in those moments of learning is that the system is beneficial but not absolute. Yes, it is very valuable that you observe and learn, but it does not have to be the only strategy you live with, all your life.

The point I'm making here is that, not all influences in life are for your own good. Some of these are outright stupid and illogical. But by this time, you have already developed and practiced the 'observe and learn' mindset, and also reaped benefits. So, it becomes increasingly difficult to challenge it.

Let's take an example of benefit and loss from the 'Observe and learn' pattern, to drive this point home.

- A child sees that to satisfy his hunger, his father eats fruits. Child observes, and learns. Repeats it out of curiosity, and gets the benefit. BENEFIT

- A child sees that to cope with stress and pain, his father drinks alcohol. Child observes, and learns. Repeats it out of curiosity, and gets the loss. LOSS

In both these examples an 'observe and learn' pattern was used, but results were different. So it really does not matter how good you are with the pattern, unless you are good with selection. And this, for the most part is a very hard question ( Classic : what is good, and what is bad, dilemma  ).

Due to this reason, patterns emerge, both beneficial and damaging in the society. What many human do not realize in their lives is that, after a period of the 'observe and learn' pattern, it is important to develop a mind of yourself and start thinking for yourself.

Patterns that society instills in us include :

   - Doubt
You can not have everything, you will not always succeed

   - Hollow ambitions
Learn something you don't really want to, to achieve an 'education' and get a 'Job', which again you don't really want to do, so that you can buy and experience things, that you don't really want to have or experience

    - Fear
You may die, you may suffer,  your loved ones may suffer, and all of this is always and absolutely bad for you.

    - Death will not happen
You will never die, so no need to think about death, just ignore it. Or, believe in a story of how, even after death there is life.

    - You are limited
You can only do some things in life and not others. This is because people are made differently, have different 'talents' and 'abilities', that you cannot possess. This is not in your control.

    - Consumption is what you are here to do
You are an entity of consumption, you are here to consume and experience all that has been made available in the world. Your consumption desire, is supreme and everything else has to fall in line, behind that.

    - Your life is decided, your choices won't matter
Everything just happens, you can't control anything, your choices and action do not matter.

    - Practicality is a principle set in stone, which you NEED in life
If you do not believe in the above principles, you are dreaming, stupid and do not have the sense for the real life.

All of the above ideas have no logical base in reasoning, and cannot be proved in a logical discussion. Yet since we hold the 'observe and learn' pattern so dear to us, we apply it here as well.

The results are : a society which does everything, without thinking. ( This is what everyone does, right !, so I will only benefit from this ... ). But the problem here is that this process has been given far too much time set it's feet in the minds of everyone in our human society. No one questions it now.

The fact of the matter is no pattern is perfect, it will have places where it can be applied, and places where other patterns of thinking are required.

So here we have established, that every now and then it benefits to take a step back and ask yourself, not anybody else, but yourself the following question :

WHY ?

For the impact that this simple question can create in peoples life, it is ridiculously ignored or forgotten.

And personally I believe the earlier you start asking WHY ?, the earlier you can discover answers, in your own mind.

Here are some why's and the answers to help you, get a feel for this :

Why is education necessary ?
Education is a communication and knowledge sharing mechanism, which is built around the principle that, whatever mistakes and experiences our human society has had up till now, should be shared with the new people in society, so that they can benefit from them.

Why do we experience physical pain ?
Physical pain is mechanism, that was developed through evolution, to let organism focus only on the areas in the body, that were damaged. It helped to focus your energies, on the pain, so that you can think about healing the body part, and not go about eating, hunting etc.

Why is money important ?
Money is concept that allows better trade of goods and services. It transfers the value onto an abstract, worthless piece of paper, which can be used a substitute for actual goods and services.

These questions have very logical reasoning in them, but many new humans, will never learn these concepts as they believe too much in 'Observe and learn' concept.

So here, I'll explain my mindset and approach to life. The insights that follow form the pillars of my mindset :

    - You as an individual have very less time to exist.
    - You as an individual are a consumer by default, you need air, water, and food to just exist, hence consumption is the very base of who you are.
    - You as an individual who exists, are just as important as any other individual who exists and any other individual who exists is just as important as you are.

Based on these facts, I put forward the following mindset to life :

    Major Ideas

     - Major idea 1 : You have limited time in life, use it to create such a positive impact on the world, that you are remembered, long after your absolutely wonderful, inspiring stint in the world

     -  Major idea 2 : Everyone is a consumer by default, but being a creator takes time and energy. Hence it follows logically that, spending any of your precious time in activities directed towards consumption, instead of creation, will inherently be anything but impacting.

     - Major idea 3 : All lives matter, each life form has the right to be respected and be treated with dignity

     - Major idea 4 : Negativity, and complaining is wasteful, in an impactful life. Whereas, positivity and problem solving are tools to create an impact.

     - Major idea 5 : Each second your life is precious, treat it with respect.

     - Major Idea 6 : Your worldview and life is a reflection of what you think about. You can control your worldview and life by managing and optimizing your thoughts

     - Major idea 7 : You can only really LIVE, by generating clarity on 'GOALS' and more importantly the 'WHY' of all of those goals. When you have clarity, you need to chase them to completion.

     - Major idea 8 : The moment you live in now, is the only 'REALITY', everything else is a perception, idea, generated in your own mind. Make the best use of this fact.

     - Major idea 9 : You're excellence will measured by your ability to fail multiple times, and turn these failures to lessons, which you ingrain in your life.

     - Major idea 10 : Change is inherent in the world in which we live. It is best to accept it as early as possible, and to learn the ability to adapt to the changes, rather than fearing them.

I thank you for coming this far with me. It indicates you really are engaged. I know what the cynic, 'Observe and learn' part of you will say after reading this article.

     - These are ideas, they won't work in the real world
     - Real life is difficult
     - Easy to say, difficult to do

But I just want to leave you with another idea to tackle all of these at once :

"It's better to die once as a hopeful optimist, than die every day as a miserable pessimist or live unexcitingly as a realist."

Hope you generate a strong mindset and live an IMPACTFUL LIFE.

The skill of Storytelling

Stories have acted as a mechanism of transferring learned experiences with other human beings within small tribes, since our hunter-gatherer years.  Even before we had written communication mechanisms, such as books, ( or even paper for that matter ), all human tribes were communicating their ideas, through story-telling. It would be a fair assumption to make, that all these stories were generally used by the senior members of a tribe, to educate the young and bright minds, who were just starting their journey as a tribe member. Since, oral communication was the norm, oratory skills must have been the key differentiator, between charming leader, and the other senior members of the tribe. Good storytelling has been the key tool in a leaders toolkit, for as long as human tribes have existed. If you, as a leader, can convey your ideas effectively, and convince the other members to agree on your version of a story, you were a very successful tribe leader. The conv

Of Downfalls and Come-backs

The story of failures are often more interesting than successes. You start with a goal in mind. You break it down into multiple smaller goals. You schedule your time, and work diligently towards completing each one of them.  You put all of your heart , mind, soul , time , energy and sacrifice to make this one thing work. Then you put it out in the world. But the world owes you nothing, and that one thing fails. You have dedicated yourself to the results, but still the results elude you. This is failure. Failure sneaks up on you while you are unaware, and now you have to face the consequences. You get "feedback" from others. You ask yourself, how could I let this happen ?  You start seeing yourself get stuck in a loop of reflection and guilt, and it all seems to crumble down. Meanwhile, the world is oblivious to all of this. The birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and the sun completes its cycles. The disconnect between an internal whirlwind, and external calm, is mind-bo
